Starting with the 2019 – 2020 academic year, the Center for Leadership is partnering with Cal Poly’s Academic Colleges to bring industry professionals and/or Cal Poly alumni to share what leadership looks like in action where they work. Our hope is that this series can highlight the many forms of leadership and that there is leadership in action in all jobs. Additionally, students will hopefully be able to see why investing in their leadership growth is important. We want students to see that investing in their personal growth (through understanding their values, skills, strengths, identities, lived, experiences and more) is a critical step in being able to succeed in their future careers.
In the Center for Leadership, we believe leadership is positional and non-positional. We are also working to help remove barriers for individuals and communities who historically or today do not see themselves as leaders or are not given those opportunities. Our hope is that speakers in many industries will be able to talk about leadership which will include examples of how they are addressing topics related to diversity, inclusion, and equity since this is an important component of leadership.
